A projector turns an impact screen into a virtual course. The choice is mostly geometry.

Throw ratio

Throw ratio = lens-to-screen distance ÷ image width. A short-throw projector creates a large image from a short distance — useful because it must stay out of the swing path. Use the manufacturer's throw calculator with your real screen width and mounting point.

Mounting position

  • Overhead, in front of the golfer: fewer shadows, but must clear the club and ball flight.
  • Behind the golfer: simpler mounting, but may cast shadows.

Aspect ratio

Match the projector's native ratio (commonly 16:9, 16:10 or 4:3) to the screen.

Brightness and light control

Rooms with windows or garage doors may need more brightness or better light control.

Lens shift vs. keystone

If the projector can't be centred, optical lens shift preserves image quality better than digital keystone.
